The formula for a new designer at an established house starts with celebrating the history and heritage of the brand. At least this WAS the way, before Gvasalia. This new and young designer is doing the opposite, reinvigorating Balenciaga via strategic shade.

Demna Gvasalia has already built an identity for Balenciaga and this happened at a real speed.

At this point the whole inventory is recognizable; a pair of skintight pointy stiletto boots, a forward-sloping tailored jacket or coat, a cheesy retro floral dress, or one of his giant striped Bazaar market bags will look familiar. The copycat cheaper brands have already copied every design properly.

Reem Acra celebrating her partnership with Tiffany's and her label’s 20th anniversary served an heretical bridal show.

It was a dream and there were BLACK gowns. Diamonds, sultry models, modern silhouettes, glamorous gowns and gloves!

To study the diamond and sketch her gowns, Acra had to be accompanied by four security guards. Excessive. Love.  Apparently, the last person to wear the diamond was Breakfast at Tiffany’s star Audrey Hepburn, the only necessary story here for all brides-to-be.

A new edition of Vogue. This does not happen often. Vogue Arabia is the 22nd international edition of the publication and in this civic climate it grabbed my attention. It's a politically charged moment for a debut, with the entire world observing the chaos of Trump's immigration ban. So much anti-Muslim rhetoric!

The setting for the festivities pictured was the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. It brought out the usual untouchable crew; iconic model, Naomi Campbell and singer, Lauryn Hill. Also taking in the festivities, presided over by Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, were Jonathan Newhouse, Xavier Romatet, Angelica Cheung and Suzy Menkes. Bright young 'girl of the moment', Sofia Richie also fell right into place. Like all good things though, the party eventually had to end—but not before a wicked performance from Hill.

I mentioned PRINCESS Deena, the inaugural editor-in-chief of Vogue Arabia appointed last July. Bonafide royalty. Issues around her vacating the role after only two issues can be googled, I have no desire for the details. What I do know is that her epic red gown was divine. TH
