With Simkhai's new Resort collection, you can tell he is settled. He notes that he was inspired by his move to L.A., desert landscapes, minimalist architecture, and a little bit of the American pastoral. This collection seemed thoughtful and personal, with pieces that showed off both his technical skills and his eye for strong silhouettes.  As a whole, the lineup felt organic and well conceived. Simkhai hopes to work on his future collections from inside his own L.A.-based home studio, which he’s currently constructing in the attached garage. He built an impressive business in a relatively short amount of time, and as his work gets more personal, as it did this season, there’s nowhere to go but up. Congratulations JS on your new marriage! xo

Mara Hoffman is dedicated to activism and women's issues and we are grateful for it!

"When you produce all these samples, and a certain percentage of [the pieces] might not even get produced, it just leads to more waste."

Her lineup continued in the soft, breezy aesthetic Hoffman has been building since last Resort, with an emphasis on clothes you can buy and wear all year round. "This idea that Resort should only be for women going on vacations in November and December . . .

You know the rest.

Alessandro Michele wanted the Parthenon in Athens for this collection. That’s how high a mega-brand like Gucci will go to create a masterpiece.

The vestiges of the ancient Classical theme were apparent—gilded wreaths, tiaras implanted with silver lyres—but then again, they were only a part of the extraordinary things Michele does to frame and individualize his cast of characters. There were leopard-spot turbans, head scarves, woolly bandeaux, nerdy tinted spectacles, glittery-framed sunglasses (I bought one at the Schipol airport in Amsterdam). Even I, am caught with Gucci again!
