27 Aug New York Fashion Week is for sale
There was a time when you had to be invited to New York Fashion Week or find some clever way to get yourself in attendance at the well sought after shows/events. Some say it was a privilege. Technically, Fashion Week existed to serve those working in the fashion industry—buyers looking for new merchandise for their stores, magazine editors reporting on the trends, stylists pulling for their clients’ next big red carpet, and so on. But with every passing year, its audience grows wider. Through live-stream videos and Instagram Stories and other social sharing, there are more eyes on the shows than ever but are the designers making money in their runway shows? The simple answer is no. And that has brought about the inevitable idea of selling tickets to shows.
In short, NYFW now barters tickets under the guise of “The Experience”. Apparently, they’re selling an official VIP experience, where you can witness the runway first-hand, with premium inclusions such as dedicated check-in, hors d’oeuvres in a Skybox Lounge above the runway, professional makeup and hairstyling by industry experts, reserved seating at exclusive collection showings, and the more you pay the closer you can get to first row. This is unheard of. Anyone with US$1,999 can buy their way to at least two shows.
I have no conclusion to this story. None :)TH
